The WA Government has provided support for two of the Greater Bunbury region’s most recognisable and cherished sporting facilities.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Mick Murray has announced the implementation of $2 million in added funding for Eaton Bowling Club.
The funding will go to the centre as part of the proposed Eaton Community Hub Project.
The Minster said the funds would help transform the club into a multi-use facility.
“Standalone clubs have become very hard to maintain,” he said.
“By bringing money in, we’re allowing them to expand so that other clubs and day users can come in and use the facility.
“If they have other groups come in – like day care providers and people with disability playing sport – it will make it much more profitable.”
The funding included $1.95 million for redevelopment works in the 2018/19 financial year. $50,000 will be set aside for planning and costing.
Mr Murray met with Eaton Bowling Club representatives and Shire of Dardanup president Mick Bennett on Thursday, May 3.
Mr Murray also met with Member for Bunbury Don Punch, City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan and Hay Park representatives last week.
Mr Murray reaffirmed the government’s pledge of $4 million for the future of the complex.
The funding – reserved for improving lighting and drainage – was first announced during the 2017 State Election campaign.
