Western Australians are one step closer to knowing who cooks the state’s best steak sandwich, with the finalists for WA’s Best Steak Sandwich revealed.
The Australian Hotels Association WA has embarked on an epic journey to determine which venues in regional and metropolitan WA can create the best of this iconic menu item.
Over 80 venues took part in the competition, making this the largest steak sandwich battle on record.
Thousands of patrons have cast their votes and the results are in.
Regional finalists include Divers Tavern (Broome), Cervantes Bar and Bistro, The Bayview Bar (Bunbury) and Endeavour Tavern (Lancelin).
Australian Hotels Association chief executive officer Bradley Woods said he was excited to see the increased interest in the competition across the state.
“Chefs put in significant creative effort to create their version of the ultimate steak sandwich, and the public are the real winners as every year the quality of this suburban pub icon continues to improve,” he said.
“The WA steak sandwich is an all-time classic and what this competition does is see this iconic dish improved and in some cases, completely reinvented.
“Chefs, venues and their staff work hard to create incredible steak sandwiches and patrons have responded by casting thousands of votes endorsing their favourite.”
The finalists will participate in a live cook-off at the 2018 AHA(WA) Hospitality Expo and Conference, held at Crown Perth.
The regional and metropolitan finalists will compete on May 15 and 16 respectively.
WA’s Best Steak Sandwich competition is proudly supported by James Squire and HiscoNFE.
