Two Bunbury Bowling Club members will get the chance to showcase their skills in front of some of the country’s best bowlers.
Laurie Blurton, 75, and Don Batt, 80, were recently selected to play for Western Australia’s bowling arm team, the Sandgropers, at the 2018 national bowling arm championships.
Hitting the greens from September 9 to 13, bowlers from around Australia will converge on East Maitland, New South Wales for the competition.
“It’s very competitive and anyone can play, especially with the bowling arms now,” Blurton said.
“We’ve got players up to about 90-years-old using bowling arms to keep playing.”
Blurton said the WA side feels a strong love for the game. “It’s going to take us a couple of years before we get a real competitive side, but we will,” he said.
“Age is no barrier for representing the state in bowling arm events.”
Blurton confirmed he and the Sandgropers will work on their skills and coordination prior to the tournament.
