NON-TRAVELLING TEAMS
The 2018 Junior football season got off to a great start with hundreds of kids coming to have a kick on Saturday.
Junior coordinators Matt Pike and Axle Vernon had great numbers with the Pre Primary and Year 1 groups. Mick Roney having great parent support and numbers with the Year 2/3 group and Ash Stewart having a good game of football in the Year 4/5 group.
If you would like to have you children involved in local junior football please come down to the Collie Football ground at 8.45am for a 9am start for the Pre Primary/Year 1’s and the Year 2/3 age groups. Followed by the Year 4/5 group at 10am.
Coffee and canteen facilities are available at the ground and parental support is required with the coaching/managing/umpiring of the players.
YEAR 6
The Year 6 side travelled to Hands Oval to take on South Bunbury in their first ever travelling game of football on Saturday.
The weather was perfect and the Eagles started well with the first goal of the day and they kept the lead all day. Captain for the day was Tyson Washer who played a good game and would have made his uncle Neville proud.
The on-ballers Tom Bell, Alby Bebbington and Max Ireland proved to be too strong for South Bunbury and they dominated when on the field.
Steve’s training for the team has paid off too with some tough tackling and shepherds that took their toll on the South Bunbury players.
Tom Bell and Alby Bebbington received awards for their good work through the midfield and Tom ended up with three goals.
Troy Bolderson got an award for his great team work and good shepherds which helped the team win the ball.
Well done also to Toby Hanns who kicked a beautiful goal which looked like to be about 30 metres out.
The final score was 12 goals, 18 points to two goals. The whole team played well and played as a team, well done.
YEAR 7
The Year 7 team opened their 2018 campaign with a Friday night game against HBL Lions.
The team were presented with their jumpers by the seniors before playing in front of a big crowd.
It was a fantastic effort by all, with the team putting in a strong performance and soundly beating the opposition 21 goals, 8 points, to 1 point.
Major goal kickers were Baxter Miller with six goals and George Fuller with four goals.
Award winners for the match were Josh Elliot, Judd Rinder and Odinn Kirk.
The Year 7’s play Dalyellup Purple in Collie at 1.15pm on Saturday.
YEAR 8
The Year 8 travelling team opened their team with a nine-goal loss to Bunbury Bulldogs at home on Saturday.
The boys were blown away by a fitter, harder team in the first half to be down by eight goals at half-time.
The team regrouped and gave their all in the second half with only two on the bench to match it with their opponents with the final score 14 goals, 1 point to 5 goals, 1 point.
Goal scorers for Collie were Jackson Broadbent with two goals and Liam Wilson, Thomas Harrison and Robbie Chitty with one goal each.
Award winners for the match were Jackson Broadbent, Thomas Harrison and Sheymus Carter.
The Year 8 team play HBL Pride in Collie next Saturday at 3pm.
YEAR 9
The Year 9 team started their season with a hard-fought three-goal loss to Bunbury Bulldogs at home on Saturday.
Collie got off to a slow start in the game but gave it their all in the second half to close the margin.
Goal kickers were James Woodhouse, Jack Bury, Tristan Ramshaw and Zac Pilatti.
Award winners for the day were James Woodhouse, Blake Alfieri, Tristan Ramshaw and a notable performance by Jack Bury.
The Year 9’s play Harvey Bulls in Collie at 4.45pm next Saturday.
YEAR 10
The Year 10 team opened their 2018 season will a great 11-point win away against HBL Lions on Saturday.
Collie were strong up forward with multiple goal scorers: Jack Rinder three goals, Christian Mears three goals, Hayden Mears two goals and Josh West with two goals.
Award winners from Saturdays game were Hayden Mears, Raymond Ugle, Josh West and Christian Mears. Special mention went out to Kade Bergersen for a great game.
The Year 10 team play South Bunbury at home tomorrow night, Friday, May 11.
