Three South West Slammers’ players will soon go up against the best of the best.
Georgia Denehey, Courtney Bayliss, and Charlotte van Kleef have been picked to play for the Women’s State Basketball League South side in the upcoming All-stars game.
The trio will face off against some of the league’s toughest challengers during Basketball WA’s Festival of Basketball, backed by Red Frogs Australia.
The North and South teams will hit the court on Monday, June 4.
“I’m a little bit nervous because I’m going to be the youngest in the starting team,” Denehey said.
“To play with that amount of talent across the board will be really exciting. I’ll be able to learn from it and play on.
“It will be really exciting to play with some people that have played in the Women’s National Basketball league.”
In its history, the event has raised over $240,000 for charity organisations around Australia.
Over the past six years, Denehey has been a South West basketball superstar.
Last year, the 19-year-old received a six-month development contract with Perth Lynx.
She was also part of the Bulls’ premiership-winning side in the 2017/18 Bunbury Basketball Association season.
“I really enjoy the team scenario and playing with friends,” she said.
“Being able to play everywhere on the court is what first attracted me to the sport.
“The Slammers is a real inclusive club and has a real family vibe. After spending six months in Perth I was really keen to come back home and play with people I knew.”
