A newly built six-bedroom facility in South Bunbury to provide for young people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness was officially opened by Community Services Minister Simone McGurk last week.
Accordwest’s new Bunyap House will deliver crisis accommodation service, which was previously delivered from a facility that required extensive renovations.
The organisation decided to build a purpose-built facility that was more centrally located and better suited to the needs of young people.
Ms McGurk said Accordwest had shown incredible commitment to constructing Bunyap House.
“I would not only like to say thank you, but also congratulate them for providing a range of important services that support vulnerable young people in the South West,” she said.
“Bunyap House is modern and practical accommodation that provides young people with a space where they feel comfortable, and accessibility for those who have disability.
Bunbury MLA Don Punch said Bunyap had a long history of operating in Bunbury and it was great to see it’s new contemporary facilities, which would continue to make a positive difference in our community.
“I've always had a view right back from my early career that if you look after people in a nice environment then that adds to building confidence, building self-esteem, value in people and it's enormously important to help people develop in their own lives,” he said.
“It's a great asset, great facility for Bunbury and it reflects the modern thinking of how we support people in need.
“Providing a safe secure environment for vulnerable young people is vital for their long-term wellbeing and I am so pleased to see this new facility open in Bunbury.”
