Doors Wide Open received a LotteryWest grant of $27,228 last week for the purchase of a new car and trailer to support them in extending their services.
Doors Wide Open co-founder Julie Kent said the grant meant they could continue to grow advocacy and education programs.
“This means we can have a lot more structure around what we do and we’re so grateful to Lotteries West, it’s just fantastic,” she said.
Doors Wide Open chair Jane Anderson said the vehicle was a much needed addition to the capacity of the organisation.
“This vehicle means more than getting from A to B – it aims to move people from being inactive to being employed, from feeling helpless to becoming helpful, from being disempowered to being confident and capable,” she said.
“It will be used to ferry recoverees to community service work sites and other agencies, and attend a multitude of crises that Meth users and their families suffer.
Bunbury MLA Don Punch said Doors Wide Open was a proactive organisation supporting families and people experiencing addiction.
“The peer to peer support model used by Doors Wide Open means they are very hands on with the people they help and the funding for a vehicle means this work can continue and grow,” he said.
