South West students looking at a career in WA’s energy sector have the opportunity to apply for a new round pre-apprenticeship electrotechnology scholarships from Western Power.
Scholarships will be provided through South Regional TAFE in Bunbury, and will be full fee paying with applications for Semester 2, 2018 now open.
South Regional TAFE managing director Duncan Anderson said it was an excellent example of an industry working with TAFE to support training pathways and promote skills development.
“Western Power’s ongoing commitment to the scholarships means that enthusiastic people are supported to get into an industry and give them the skills they need to get started,” he said.
“We know our Electrotechnology Pre-apprenticeships are providing students with the skills they need because of our close links with industry and the high level of relevant training we provide.”
Energy Minister Ben Wyatt said creating career opportunities for Western Australian’s was a focus for the government.
“Supporting pathways for real jobs for those living in regional areas is an essential role of government,” he said.
“The pre-apprenticeship scholarships provide a great boost for anyone looking to join the energy sector.
“I urge anyone interested in a career in the energy sector to apply for the chance to secure one of these tremendous opportunities for studying in regional Western Australia.”
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said she encouraged people to take up the opportunity and apply.
“It could be the start of a new and rewarding career – a scholarship can be great motivation for someone to take the leap and get started, including young people, career-changers and mature-age students,” she said.
“Scholarships encourage and support students to train for a job they are passionate about, while also helping industry by encouraging skills growth in a particular area.”
Applicants are encouraged to apply by July 23, 2018.
