Five of the South West Football League’s biggest stars have been selected in the WA State Country team that will take on the South Australian State Country team next week.
South Bunbury sharpshooter Leigh Kohlmann will be joined in the team by Tigers teammate Liam McKenna, along with Donnybrook’s Jace Cormack and Harvey Brunswick Leschenault pair Jesse Crichton and Mitch Andrews.
Former Collie Eagles midfielder Joel Leeson, who now plays for Dalwallinu in the Mortlock Football League, was also selected as a reserve.
The squad of 22 will travel to the Adelaide Oval to take on South Australia in the curtain-raiser to the AFL game between Adelaide and Melbourne on Saturday, July 28.
The South West players will go into the game with strong form as Cormack claimed the best and fairest award for the Landmark Carnival recently, while Crichton was best on ground in the grand final.
Andrews has been one of the league’s most dominant rucks, McKenna is one of the favourites for the Hayward medal and Kohlmann sits third on the league’s goal kicking leaderboard.
The team also includes six players from fellow Landmark Carnival grand finallist the Avon Football Association and four from the Peel Football and Netball League.
