In November, Bunbury’s Queens Garden’s will host an important historical piece of infrastructure.
The infrastructure will be a tree sculpture that will have 500 leaves, which are plaques that represent non-English speaking migrants and their families who have moved to the South West.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said committee project manager Charlie Martella came to him last year to support the project.
“When Charlie asked for my help I had no hesitation. The project shows wonderful community spirit driven by a dedicated group of descendants,” he said.
Mr Brennan said the memorial sculpture would fit in well at the Queens Garden’s alongside the Friendship Gardens.
Committee member and descendant Tony Scaffidi said the memorial was proof of how it was for people before coming here and how they adapted.
The opening will be on Saturday, November 24.
