Playing soccer, studying, and having a ball – these are the goals of Bunbury athlete Craig Kamocha, 20.
Kamocha has been chosen to play soccer and study Business Management at West Virginia’s Salem International University.
The four-year scholarship will provide Kamocha with accommodation, food, and transport.
Having already jetted off to the States, Kamocha is ready to continue the journey and reach new heights.
“I’m planning on working hard and then starting up my own clothing line once I have more experience,” he said.
Kamocha starred for Tornadoes Black’s A-grade men’s team during the 2017/18 Bunbury Basketball Association season.
The team reached the grand final, but went down to the Bulls by nine points.
Kamocha notched up 222 points during the season, landing 80 two-point opportunities, five three-pointers, and 48 free-throws.
He represented Tornadoes Black’s A-men’s side from 2015 to 2018, and played for the Under 19A Boys’ side in the 2015/16 season.
During his time in the region, Kamocha was also picked for the Western Australia Country U16 and U18 teams, the South West Slammers, and the 2017 Bunbury Catholic College Marist Tour squad.
The 20-year-old mastered the tricks of the trade while playing soccer for Bunbury Catholic College, Bunbury Dynamos, Mandurah, and South West Phoenix.
Kamocha donned Phoenix colours from 2015 to 2017.
“I started playing soccer at a very young age – my parents got me involved – and I got into basketball through a primary school team,” Kamocha said.
“I like the creativeness of both sports; so many different ways to score and impress.
“I loved playing Country Coastal Junior Soccer Association – Country Week soccer as well as Country Championship basketball.”
Providing some advice for Bunbury’s youngsters, Kamocha said: “Work hard and don’t be afraid to try new things: You do you, don’t let other people’s judgement affect your decisions.”
