The wet weather didn’t keep Premier Mark McGowan away today when he visited Bunbury Senior High School for the unveiling of plans for a new $5 million building.
Making use of the school’s coastal location, Bunbury-based architect Kent Lyon designed the multi-level building, which will be sited on a steep hill overlooking the ocean.
Mr McGowan said it marked an exciting milestone for the school.
“Through this multimillion dollar investment, students and staff will enjoy modern, purpose-built learning facilities, a new cafeteria and better access to the school’s sporting grounds,” he said.
“Bunbury Senior High School has a fantastic history and celebrates 100 years this year.
“Today, we get a glimpse of part of its very bright future.
“I’m looking forward to seeing this impressive project take shape and open to students in 2020.”
Bunbury MLA Don Punch said it was fantastic to see a school with so much history continue to grow and evolve.
“Seeing this election commitment come to fruition is really satisfying and I could not be more pleased for the Bunbury Senior High School community,”
“The fact the Premier is here today making this announcement shows just how important regional education is to this Government, and I am very proud to be part of the team delivering for schools in Bunbury.”
The building will provide improved access between the administration block above and gymnasium and playing fields below.
It will also house staff amenities on the first floor, while the second floor will provide two multipurpose classrooms and an open activity space.
A student cafeteria will lead from the third floor and connect with the existing quadrangle of the administration block, providing seamless access between these key areas.
Construction is expected to start in early 2019, with completion scheduled for late 2019.
