Withers man Darren Giacomel has been declared a drug trafficker and was given a seven year jail term when he was in Bunbury District Court last month.
Giacomel faced district court on Tuesday, August 28 charged with selling methamphetamine, possessing stolen/unlawfully obtained property, and possessing methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply.
Judge Belinda Lonsdale handed down a seven-year term of imprisonment, eligible for parole, backdated to July 9, 2018.
Appearing via video link from Bunbury Regional Prison, the 43-year-old also faced Bunbury Magistrates Court on Monday, September 3 over charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm/ammunition, possessing a silencer, and possessing cannabis.
The matter was adjourned to September 17, with Giacomel due to seek legal advice.
Giacomel was arrested and charged during Operation Zagros – a South West Police operation spread across Bunbury and Manjimup earlier this year.
The operation – carried out by Bunbury detectives, Manjimup police, South West District Police officers, the Organised Crime Squad and Police Canine Unit – was first launched in July 2017.
A search of Giacomel’s Withers property uncovered 156 grams of methamphetamine as well as cannabis, an unlicensed semi-automatic rifle, and $20,000 in cash.
Operation Zagros saw 14 properties raided, 13 people charged, and 64 charges laid.
Police revealed 250g of meth, just over one kilogram of cannabis, and cash in excess of $25,000 were uncovered during the operation.
