Members of the Apex Bunbury Koombana Club will be out in force for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend providing free refreshments and encouraging drivers to stop and take a break to prevent the onset of fatigue and fatigue related road trauma.
The Driver Reviver operation will be run on Monday, September 24, from 9am to 3pm on Bussell Highway, north of Roberts Road.
Driving while tired is dangerous and fatigue is estimated to be a factor in up to 30 per cent of fatal crashes on WA roads.
Apex Bunbury Koombana club member Nathan Locke said the Driver Reviver program aimed to address driver fatigue and contribute to the prevention of fatigue related death and injury.
“Too often people drive long distances after working all day or leaving after a full day’s activities,” he said.
“With fatigue setting in after approximately two hours of driving, that’s when people should take a break.
“As you set off on your journey, remember to swap drivers where possible, stop for a break or coffee at least every two hours or stop to have a short sleep.”
