The City of Bunbury is looking forward to remaining “productive” between now and the October 2019 local government elections.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan told the Mail he will be holding an informal discussion with the councillors in October to determine what they would like for the Bunbury-Geographe region over the next 12 months.
“The meeting will recap where we’re at at the moment as far as our major projects are concerned, what major projects we have on our agenda right now, and what the likely projects will be in the near future,” he said.
“We know a number of current councillors have indicated that they will not be re-nominating.
“However, we won’t fully know that until the nominations for next year’s elections are formally closed.
“I am very keen to hear from the outgoing councillors what their aspirations are for the remaining 12 months.”
There’s an amazing array of talent, energy, and passion in our city and I continue to encourage those people to contribute to our city.

Mr Brennan was certain there would be no councillor retirements or resignations prior to next year’s elections.
He said the possibility of multiple councillors leaving could open the door for a more diverse range of people to represent Bunbury.
“I always advocate for fresh and new ideas,” he said.
“You look at the Deputy Mayor – Jaysen Miguel – as an example, he’s in his mid-20s.
“There’s an amazing array of talent, energy, and passion in our city and I continue to encourage people to contribute to our city.
“We do have a lot of solicited input from young, hard-working small business people in our city.”
Among those retiring at the next election is Brendan Kelly, stepping down from the role after 12 years fulfilling local government positions.
“In my case, I have always said that it is best to go out with some petrol in the tank and after three terms, three stints as Deputy Mayor, to two different Mayors, I’m pretty content with my efforts,” he said.
“I am most proud of my work on access and inclusion in Bunbury and the MARCIA program, which I have championed across my three terms of service.
“I have also worked hard on heritage matters and for the Withers renewal program.
“I am also very proud of the fact that I have always been seen as a readily accessible councillor.”
