Two charged, Holden Utility seized following Leschenault road rage attack

South West Police allege a 21-year-old male driver and a 20-year-old male passenger, in a Holden Utility, began to follow a Toyota Corolla at Old Coast Road/Forrest Highway at 5.38pm on September 30. 

Vision uploaded online showed the driver committing traffic offences as well as the passenger using a baseball bat to smash the Toyota Corolla’s driver’s side window. 

Bunbury detectives laid down charges and confiscated the Utility earlier this week. 

The 21-year old was charged with being armed in a way to cause fear, criminal damage, reckless driving, and using a mobile phone behind the wheel. 

The 20-year-old passenger received charges over being armed in a way to cause fear, criminal damage, failing to wear a seatbelt, and having his body and/or limbs protruding from the car. 

Australind Police Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Clelland said those involved in road rage attacks showcased a disregard for the safety of others. 

“Road rage incidents are completely unacceptable in our community, this incident will be full investigated,” he said. 

“It’s dangerous to the people involved and to other road users. 

“We will conduct investigations to seize vehicles and charge people with serious offences.” 

Senior Sergeant Clelland said community members were essential in reporting road rage incidents. 

“We rely on information from the public,” he said. 

“People don’t tend to drive that way in front of marked police vehicles, so we encourage the public, when they have footage of such driving, to come to the police as their first port of call so we can investigate the matter.

“We need people to be witnesses and provide that footage to us, there’s no good in putting it on Facebook.” 

The two men will attend Bunbury Magistrates Court at a later date.
