Over the weekend Bendigo Bank held a quiz night and the Plus Fitness 24/7 gym held a 24-hour bike ride to raise funds to go towards the Children’s Leukaemia and Cancer Research Foundation in honour of Jackson Pianta.
Two and half year old Jackson has spent just over half of his life in hospital after being diagnosed with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
The community tirelessly came together to support the cause with the 24 hour bike ride raising $3,400 and the quiz night raising $1,700.
Plus Fitness 24/7 gym manager Teagan Roney said they had a total of 84 people participating including five police officers, who helped to cover over 5,000 kilometers.
“Collie is such a generous town and it was such an emotional heart warming experience to see all these people come together for Jackson and other children suffering from such a terrible illness,” she said.
“It also reminded so many of us, especially the parents, how truly lucky we are to have children in good health and to appreciate every moment you have with your loved ones.”
Karen Kelly won the 12 month membership, Peter Rowe won the Otis Sunglasses donated by Karen Butcher and Danika Cabrini won the toys donated by Crank’n Cycles.
