A 27-point haul from Adele East saw Dunsborough Oilers women’s team secure its first win for the 2018/19 Bunbury Basketball Association season on Friday night.
Despite being within one point of Dunsborough in the second term, Aces Sky lagged behind the Oilers throughout the clash.
Adele East laded eight two-pointers, three three-pointers and two free throws, while Dana East (24) and Beige Harris (12) also made great strides around the court.
An impressive second-half display led to a comfortable 84 to 52 win to Dunsborough.
In the season’s first showdown between Tornadoes Red and Tornadoes Black, Tornadoes Red edged in front by quarter time and looked set to take home the points.
Tornadoes Black found its form and – with support from Ebony Bilcich (22) and Javene Fitch (16) – took the lead in the third.
Tornadoes Red ran out of steam near the final buzzer, as Tornadoes Black gained a resounding lead.
Tornadoes Black is the team to beat following its 65 to 40 victory.
Bulls put in a dazzling performance to secure a crushing win over Aces Sky in the men’s competition.
Aces Sky crumbled as Bulls/South West Slammers players Travis Durnin (27) and Tom Harper (25) took control of the clash.
Aces Wade and Luke Hitchcock (17 and 16 respectively) fought bravely, but Bulls’ dominant performance led to a resounding 102 to 60 win.
Tornadoes Black returned to competition with an immaculate display against newcomers Eaton.
Slammers/Tornadoes Black star Matt Leary (36) piled on seven two-pointers and seven from behind the three-point line.
Tornadoes Black led from the opening tip-off before landing a 104 to 50 result.
A closer contest saw Tornadoes Red claim two wins from two against Dunsborough.
Phoenix Oneil shot 24 (including 11 two-pointers) to maintain Tornadoes Red’s lead, while Jack Marrell (21) kept the Oilers in contention.
Tornadoes Red’s team dynamic ensured an 82 to 77 victory.
