For the love of the craft, Byron Bay singer-songwriter Josh Lee Hamilton has driven all the way across the Nullarbor ahead of his first tour of Western Australia.
The journey is all part of Hamilton’s much-anticipated new tour, performing in Denmark before stopping off at the Prince of Wales Hotel on Thursday, October 25.
Following his night at the Bunbury venue, he will hit the road once again for a Secret Garden Show in Fremantle.
“I have never been to WA before. I have heard a lot about the great music culture here, especially that of the South West,” he said.
“I decided to get amongst it, do some surfing, and see the state’s beautiful coastline.
“I wanted to hit the road, be true to the meaning of my new song, and get it out there.
“I have played around Byron Bay a lot, doing the circuit of gigs constantly, so it’s a bit nice having a refreshing change of venues.”
The tour celebrates the release of Hamilton’s latest single, With the Wind, described as being about life-changing decisions.
“To me, personally, it’s all about the sentiment of the song,” he said.
“I wrote the song after I had stepped out of my full-time career as a civil engineer, two years ago, and into music.
“It’s all about knowing those moments where you need to throw caution to the wind and take chances in life.”
When you know the time is right, you’ve just got to do it and acknowledge it’s not always going to be easy.

Since the transition, the singer-songwriter’s “uniquely smooth and captivating” sound has resonated with people all over the East Coast.
It has been an interesting year for Hamilton – performing everywhere from metropolises to country towns around Australia.
Tour highlights have so far included Splendour in the Grass as well as shows alongside Caravana Sun.
Last year, he scored Song Writer of the Year and Best Alternative/Indie Song at the 2017 NCEIA Dolphin Awards.
Hamilton said his new career came from a leap of faith, and that he couldn’t wait to see what was around the corner.
“There’s no seemingly smooth transition,” he said.
“When you know the time is right, you’ve just got to do it and acknowledge it’s not always going to be easy.”
