Rider William Pike and Deception Game ($1.90) pulled off a remarkable effort to claim the 1400-metre, $19,000 Civilcon Construction Handicap last week.
Punters headed to the Bunbury Turf Club on Sunday, October 21 for South Bunbury Football Club’s Race Day.
The grey-bay gelding/race favourite had a sluggish start out of the barrier, settling in sixth place just behind the field.
Pike and Deception Game maintained their position past the 800m mark and final turn, before race leader Awesome As fell back from first to second.
The home straight saw Deception Game pass the field to cross the line a neck in front of Awesome As and one-and-one-quarter lengths ahead of Point.
After placing fifth in the Civilcon Construction Handicap, rider Lucy Warwick led race favourite Cockney Crew ($2) to victory in the South West Isuzu Maiden.
The field settled behind Cockney Crew, and watched on as the chestnut gelding held first throughout the race.
Warwick smiled brightly as Cockney Crew finished a short half head in front of Orabreeze.
Earlier in the day, race favourite The Pen ($2.40) and Paul Harvey had a shaky start in the Qube Port and Bulk Transport Maiden.
The pair needed a boost after settling in sixth place and sitting in fifth past the turn.
The Pen moved up on the home straight, crossing a half-length in front of Euphonious.
