Having her name called in last week’s AFL Women’s draft was a dream come true for South West footballer Philipa Seth.
The 24-year-old was drafted by the Fremantle Dockers, at overall pick number 28, for the 2019 AFL Women’s season.
The half back flank said Tuesday’s announcement made for a special moment.
“It is so exciting, I still have a lot of hard work ahead of me but there’s now something more to aim for,” she said.
“It’ll now be about working in a team environment to get the win, rather than working individually to get drafted.”
Between 2012 and 2018, Seth donned the blue and white of East Fremantle in the West Australian Women’s Football League.
Earlier this year, Seth was chosen for the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers’ high performance academies.
“The calibre of coaching staff at the Fremantle Dockers is incredible,” she said.
“Over the next few months, it’ll be about working on my strength and fitness, and really seeing where I fit in as part of the team.
“Getting into the league is the pinnacle for any female footballer’s career and I am really happy to have gotten there.
“There are so many players that go in and out of the system, so I want to be someone that makes a name for herself and continues to work hard.”
During her time in the South West, Seth worked as a physiotherapist for Physio Group South West.
She also helped the Collie Eagles women’s team as an assistant coach during the side’s first home and away season in 2018.
