A life size horse, 68 handmade white crosses, hundreds of poppies, barbed wire, jarrah fence posts, metres of hessian and wooden pallets were used to create a touching tribute at Bunbury Catholic College in marking 100 years since Armistice.
The display was created at the College’s Mercy Campus with librarians Sally Ball and Lynn Brown with the help of students, spending hours to recreate a trench and lay out poppies and crosses.
Planning for the display began almost a year ago, Ms Ball said it had been lovely to see peoples reactions.
“We had some women who were prepared to make poppies for us, we imagined a trench and then we got the woodwork boys to make us the white crosses,” she said.
“The students have been completely intrigued and a lot of them were really helpful and engaged with making it.”
In the week before Remembrance Day, students and staff were visited by Vietnam veteran Gill Goodwin who spoke of his experiences and the significance of November 11 after creating the large cross within the display.
