Tornadoes Black remains in contention for the 2018/19 men's premiership title after defeating Tornadoes Red in an entertaining clash on Friday night.
Both sides were neck-and-neck early in the game, before Tornadoes Black edged in front by three at the first change.
Jason Smith overwhelmed Tornadoes Red’s defence, shooting 36 points (six three-pointers, six in the key, and six free-throws).
Callum Heap shot an impressive 22, while Slammers’ star Matthew Leary dished up 12.
As Tornadoes Red stalled, Tornadoes Black picked up steam in the second to increase its margin by half time.
Despite solid efforts from Jordan Yarran (16) and Phoenix Oneil (13), Tornadoes Red couldn’t quite match Tornadoes Black’s intensity in the second half.
After shooting 28 in the third quarter, Tornadoes Black piled on more points in the fourth.
The side remains second on the ladder following its 100 to 64 victory.
Aces Sky moved up to third with a convincing performance against Eaton.
The Aces side excelled from the opening tip-off, shooting nine points before Eaton could claim its first two.
Up by 10 at quarter time, Aces Sky was caught off-guard in the second term by a reinvigorated Eaton line-up.
Aces Sky held a four-point lead at the main break, before scoring 27 points to four in the third quarter.
Aces players Luke Deighton (22, seven three-pointers) and Cory Richardson (20) strived to crush Eaton in the fourth.
Shooting another 31 in the final term, Aces Sky celebrated a 99 to 49 win.
Adrian Knight top scored for Eaton with nine.
League leaders Bulls will return to the court in round seven.
In the women’s competition, Ebony Bilcich (20) and Kristy Larsen (19) helped Tornadoes Black to secure a tight win over Tornadoes Red.
Troubled by Tornadoes Red in the first quarter, Tornadoes Black found its footing in the second.
Both teams were evenly matched in the second term, before Tornadoes Red went ahead by three at half time.
Tornadoes Red stars Karinda Farrant (25) and Shontai Farrant (16) were unstoppable throughout the game.
Fearing an upset loss, Tornadoes Black kicked into gear and landed a whopping 28 points in the final term. The side went on to win 63 to 59.
Second-placed Dunsborough entertained the home crowd with a 10-point victory over Aces Sky.
Beige Harris and Shannon Verhagen put the Oilers in front by quarter time.
Dunsborough maintained its lead in the second and held on to an 11-point buffer at the main break.
Aiming for a second consecutive win over Dunsborough, Aces Sky closed the gap just before three-quarter time.
However, the Oilers did enough to score a 54 to 44 win.
Tornadoes Black and Aces Sky will clash in what’s expected to be an enthralling showdown this Friday.
