Colts breezed through Hay Park in round one of the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association’s twenty-20 competition.
Heading to the crease first, Hay Park was looking to claim an easy victory on its home turf.
The Redbacks’ inning started poorly. Captain Jono Whitney was bowled by Josh Topliss (2/11 from three overs) for a duck.
The home side was then stranded on 2/7, after Topliss bowled Kris Miller for one.
Hay Park’s middle order – Michael Tassone (13), Graham Yates (15), and wicketkeeper Dillen Watson (19) –then worked overtime to up the run rate.
Despite their enthusiasm, the Redbacks were outmatched by the reigning premiers’ bowling line-up.
Lower order batsmen Gregory Stephens (trapped lbw by Joe Barningham) and Reon Tither (bowled by Jake Boyle) were sent back to the clubrooms for a duck and one respectively.
Daniel Sheppard provided some relief for the home side later on, knocking 16 off eight not out including two fours.
Hay Park was all out for 98 following the dismissals of Shaun Bulman for a duck and Dylan Gordon for five.
Barningham collected 3/14 from four overs, before Boyle (2/13 from 1.4 overs) and Cruize Ciallella (2/22 from four overs) troubled the Redbacks.
Colts opener Lee Sorfleet got the ball rolling by hitting 19 off 37.
Superstar Jayden Goodwin slogged a commendable 42 off 46, including five fours, during his hour at the crease.
Murray Goodwin also impressed, hitting 22 off 18 including two fours.
The visitors required just 17 overs to reach Hay Park’s total.
Eaton is still in contention despite losing to Leschenault on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers looked set for victory after opener James Hillery posted 20 off 28, including one four and a six.
However, following his and Cory Fitt’s dismissals, the side was stranded on 2/50.
Christopher Marrow knocked 40 off 37, before Clayton Caltsounis hit 35 off 30 to up the Beavers’ run rate.
Chasing Eaton’s solid 5/123 total, Leschenault opener Kurt D’Agostino knocked 39 off 47, including three fours.
Captain Thomas Buchanan displayed his expertise with the bat once again, slogging 48 off 38 and frustrating Eaton’s bowlers in the process.
Eaton bowler Clint Hewson collected 4/20 from 3.5 overs and came close to dismantling Leschenault single-handedly.
In a nail-biting finish, the Green Caps managed to reach Eaton’s total with just one ball remaining.
Marist broke its losing streak with a 13-run win over Dalyellup Beach.
After winning the toss, the Blues were greatly assisted by opening batsmen Brayden Clarke (16 off 16) and Mark Steele (17 off 12).
Top order powerhouse Reece O’Connell (24 off 15, four fours) and middle order batsman Kyle Davis (23 off 16) also starred for the visitors at the crease.
Dalyellup bowlers Dylan Robinson (2/16 from two overs) and Noah Greenmount (2/18 from four overs) were effective in ripping through Marist’s middle order.
Eager to reach Marist’s 144-run total, Dalyellup’s Rodney Shemeld quickly posted 19 off 17.
The star for Dalyellup Beach, however, was Daniel Lomax, slogging 55 off 49 including three fours and two sixes.
Marist bowler Alan Utterson clinched 2/20 from four overs, along with two run outs, during Dalyellup’s inning.
Despite excellent efforts from Justin Woods (19 off 22) and Liam Renton (12 off 13), Dalyellup Beach could only manage 8/131.
In the Country Cup competition, Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association and Albany were forced to share the points after their match was abandoned due to rain.
Strong victory for Dons line-up
Donnybrook held on to top spot following a narrow victory over Eaton at Egan Park. Efforts from Stuart Clark (28 runs) and Troy Lewis (31) helped the Beavers to reach 6/109.
Donnybrook responded well, with middle order batsman Paul Reynolds posting 41.
The Dons reached Eaton’s total with four overs remaining.
Colts picked up four points with a convincing 46-run victory over Marist.
Colts opener Ian Prosser knocked 37 off 43, including three fours.
Blaze Rosinski (31 off 18) and Graeme Millington (35 off 16) then teamed up to keep Colts’ run rate ticking over.
Eager to reach Colts’ 6/171 total, Marist’s Glen Dehring hit 16 off 23, including two fours.
Despite solid efforts from the middle order, Marist could only manage 5/125.
Collie continued its form with a win over Leschenault on Saturday afternoon.
Brayden Kent posted a whopping 40 runs (including five fours and one six), before Mark Williams celebrated his 62-run haul.
Following a lower order collapse, the Coalminers posted 7/166.
Jason Borrett claimed 4/29 from four overs, aiding Collie in dismissing Leschenault for 129.
Harvey-Benger fought to claim a nine-wicket victory over Capel.
Capel’s middle order batsmen were instrumental, helping the side to post 6/131.
Thanks to top order batsmen Haydn Jones (78) and Hamish Minton (37), Harvey-Benger later reached Capel’s total with five overs to go.
