There was perfect weather at the Bunbury Little Athletics track last weekend for setting records, scoring personal best achievements, and generally having fun all round.
The morning started with the 1500m for our senior athletes and the anticipation of a new record in the U16 boys event.
Noah McAneny didn’t disappoint, with a run of 4 minutes, 25 seconds.
Meanwhile, out on the field, Lainee Freemantle set a new record in the U6 girls discus and Jasper Steele set a new record for the boys U12 shot put.
There was major excitement at the end of the day as 100m records fell left, right, and centre.
Kyle Adlam started the trend with a run of 15.94 seconds in the U7s, breaking the previous time of 16.22 seconds set back in 1996.
Gabriel Doolan, who broke the U14 boys 200m hurdle record the previous week, then took to the track, setting a new record in the 100m of 11.41 seconds.
The U15 boys then came out and blew everyone away with a phenomenal run.
All five boys in the event set personal bests, with three athletes breaking the previous record of 11.55 seconds, and Brock Kenny setting an astounding record of 10.81 seconds.
We are excited to watch what these boys can achieve as a team at the State Relay Championships, set to be held in Perth on December 1.
In the wake of such impressive runs, our timers ensured they had their back up clocks going for Ruby Williams’ race.
Having set interschool records this year, and the 400m record last week, we knew she could run well.
She came out of the blocks flying, breaking the 36-year-old record of 13.2 seconds by 0.78 seconds, with a new record of 12.42 seconds.
Congratulations to all 210 athletes who competed, and thank you to our committee and every volunteer who stepped up to make it such a successful day.
It was an exceptional day of competition.
