Christmas is a special time for all communities.
It is a time when families and friends make a special effort to reconnect, and my family is no different.
We normally do that on Saturday, December 22, the first night of the Dunstan Street lights when thousands of people in vehicles or walking enjoy the atmosphere created by the decorative and candle lights.
Citizens will also get to enjoy the wonderful live music of Christmas Carols being played at two locations along the street.
On Sunday, December 9 our whole community and visitors came together to enjoy and celebrate the Christmas Parade and Carols at Bicentennial Square, as part of the Christmas in the City extravaganza.
It was a great atmosphere created by families and friends socialising.
I believe we should take every opportunity we can to have as much in-person interaction as possible rather than by electronic communication.
Unfortunately not everyone looks forward to Christmas as there are many lonely people and families without the means to celebrate or provide gifts.
This is when the work of volunteers and church groups such as the Salvation Army is so important.
They capture the generosity of our community, caring and giving food and gifts to ensure many of those individuals and families have some joy each Christmas.
I urge everyone to make that special effort to reconnect with loved ones, to stay safe and reflect on how fortunate we are to live in this paradise.
If you have the means to do so please be as generous as you can to support the Salvation Army and other church groups in their quest to provide some joy to those in need.
Merry Christmas from my family to you.
