Kurtley Beale has apologised to Rugby Australia but will receive no punishment after he was seen laughing at a man appearing to consume drugs in a video circulated on social media.
The Wallabies centre was spotted in the background of a 14-second video which showed NRL star Corey Norman encouraging a man to snort a white substance.
The video was filmed in 2016, but resurfaced on Monday night amid a spate of videos featuring NRL players.
Rugby Australia (RA) boss Raelene Castle said Beale had immediately contacted her to apologise over the incident.
"Rugby Australia only became aware of the vision after it had surfaced on social media on Monday afternoon and understands that it was recorded in 2016," Castle said.
"After becoming aware that the vision was being shared on social media, Kurtley contacted me last night to apologise for the negative attention the video had attracted and expressed regret at putting himself in a compromising position at that time.
"Kurtley has today met with Rugby Australia's Integrity Unit to provide his version of events and the high standards that are expected of him as a professional Rugby player have been firmly reiterated.
"Kurtley acknowledges that his presence in the video and the humour he expressed at the incident at the time does not reflect the image that is expected of a professional rugby player."
An RA spokesperson later confirmed that the 30-year-old Waratahs star would not face any disciplinary action over the incident and it now considered the matter closed.
It comes just months after Beale and Adam Ashley-Cooper were suspended for a Test against England on the Wallabies' spring tour for breaching team rules and allowing two women into their hotel room.
One of the women was Ashley-Cooper's sister-in-law, and Castle confirmed at the time there was no suggestion of anything inappropriate occurring.
