Bunbury-based team Krikke Motorsport and sprintcar driver Kerry Madsen finished eighth in the Australian 410 Sprintcar Championship at Archerfield Speedway.
Madsen started in position 15 after crashing out of the preliminary feature race on Australia Day.
The driver had placed third in the Grand Annual Classic at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.
He scored second and sixth place finishes in his heats, before coming third in the preliminary event.
Starting out in position 10 in the feature race, Madsen rapidly moved up the field. He shifted from tenth to fifth within the first 12 laps.
The Madman then moved up to fourth before reaching third with eight laps to go.
In third at the chequered flag, he and his team made it onto the podium.
“Considering that we started so deep in the field, working our way onto the podium is a result we’re really happy with,” Madsen said.
“I had to charge hard from the beginning of the race and make up as many spots as possible.
“The team gave me a really a strong car for the feature race and it paid off with a spot on the podium.”
Earlier this month, Madsen suffered a Did Not Finish in the Presidents Cup at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.
The Kings Challenge, at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway, was rained out prior to the feature race.
Madsen will return for round eight of the World Sprintcar Series in Albany on February 16.
Krikke Motorsport thanked the sponsors for their support during the 2018/19 season.
