The Bunbury Archery Club is getting ready for an exciting few months ahead.
The club is busily preparing for its Silver Leprechaun tournament, scheduled for Sunday, April 21.
Club president Amanda Owen-Tucker said they were also looking to hold both weekday and weekend sessions.
“We want to have more ‘Come and Try’ sessions as well as different types of events,” she said.
“We’re looking at hosting clubs from Perth and some from the east coast. We’ll be developing a plan.”
The club has around 11 active members, with others attending every so often.
“Our major plan is to attract more members,” Owen-Tucker said.
“It’s a good sport that anyone can participate in, from young to old. People can also compete in competitions.
“It’s a great social sport, as well.”
After contracting Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, club vice president David Short turned to archery as a form of physiotherapy.
“I live for Sundays now. I am shooting in the 700s, out of a possible 900, so I am doing ok,” he said.
“Everyone in the club steps up when need be; it’s a very inclusive club and there are many lovely people. It’s also para-inclusive.”
Club treasurer Coral Dandridge and state coach George Dandridge – both nationally-accredited judges and coaches – received their 50-year volunteering medals in 2018.
Dandridge said the club achieved many positive results last year.
The club switched to an electronic scoring system and forged new relationships with groups from across Perth.
