Collie B-grade played Colts at home in the first game back after country week. With some regular team members unavailable due to wedding commitments the team saw some new faces come in.
Collie lost the toss and were sent into the field.
The Colts openers cashed in on some wayward short bowling from Jason Borrett and Gagan Sidhu early to get them off to a fast start.
Colts were going easily at a run a ball rate until Sidhu got the first wicket.
Ryan Loxton was brought on to replace Borrett but the runs kept flowing for Colts who were 60 from their first 10 overs.
Sidhu got his second wicket and a bowling change saw Tyson Hayes and Greg Tomasini take the ball.
Their bowling partnership dried up the runs with some consistent bowling to set fields.
Collie worked their way back into the game to have Colts 2 for 100 at the 25 over mark.
Collie took stock at drinks and had a much better second session in the field.
Seth White came on to bowl taking three wickets and Jason Borrett’s second spell was accurate to clean up the tail.
These six wickets along with two runouts saw Collie take 8 for 84 and restrict Colts to a manageable total after they got off to a fast start.
Best Bowlers: Seth White 3 for 26 from 8.5, Jason Borrett 3 for 34 from 9, Gagan Sidhu 2 for 29 from 7.
Collie got off to a good start with the chase with Brayden Kent and Jarved Dallywater going well at the top of the order until Dallywater was dismissed for 16.
Seth White was dismissed for two and Brayden was joined by little brother Austin Kent who put together a partnership to get Collie to 2 for 65.
After Brayden was dismissed for a well made 32 and Greg Tomasini not long after for 5 the game was in the balance at 4 for 100 with Gagan Sidhu and Austin Kent at the crease.
Austin fell just before drinks for a well made 25 and similar to colts the wheels fell off the bus after drinks with Collie losing 5 for 25 to be all out for 130, 54 short of the Colts total.
Best batsmen: B. Kent 32, A. Kent 25, G. Sidhu 14.
The loss sees Collie remain in second but only just.
A key game next week against Marist at Forrest Park will be key to Collie securing finals.
Next week also sees a past players’ day on Sunday at the Collie Cricket club.
The event involves two T20 games featuring past players representing the four previous Collie Cricket Clubs (Saints, Bullfinch, Railways and Bushrangers).
The event starts at 11am with a bouncy castle available for kids in what should be a great day’s entertainment.
YEAR 7: Collie vs Donnybrook
First game back for the season on Saturday, February 2 started well for Collie.
The opening bowlers managed to make it hard for Donnybrook to score runs and after the third over Donnybrook were only 0/7.
First wicket fell at the hands of Lucas Worlley in the 9th over, soon followed by some spectacular team work from Toby Hanns (bowler) and Tyson Washer (catcher) to see the fall of Donnybrooks 2nd.
By the end of the first innings Donnybrook managed to pick up pace and ended 2/84 after 15 overs.
Unfortunately, Collie weren’t as lucky, with their first wicket falling in only the 2nd over.
O. McLean and Montana Dallywater put on a steady partnership until Dallywater was dismissed on 23 in the 9th over.
McLean then retired and made way for Washer. I. Dallywater helped add three runs to the total before being caught.
Second innings saw Collie take four more wickets (all bowled – McLean, Cruz McCagh, Dallywater, and Hanns) but not before Donnybrook posted a massive score to finish on 6/167.
Second innings saw Washer (5) and the return of McLean (14) both kept their composure and both retired, along with Hanns (4).
A very nervous McCagh (5) managed to overcome his nerves and post his biggest run total for the year while batting alongside C. Boyle (1). Collie finished 65 runs short on 6/102.
Collies 2nd game back also resulted in a loss.
Collie played Leschenault in Leschenault on Sunday and went down by 65 runs.
Outstanding plays for the day went to, Tyson Washer and Toby Hanns for both retiring. Also Toby Hanns 2/3 off 3 overs, Tyson Washer 1/10 off 3 overs, Montana Dallywater 0/4 off 4 overs, Lucas Worlley 1/3 off 4 overs and Cruz McCagh 2/9 off 3 overs.
YEAR 9: Collie vs Leschenault
Last weekend the Year 9 team was back in action with games on both days. Saturday was against Leschenault in Leschenault with Collie winning the toss and bowling.
Wicket takers were Blake Rees 2/12, Max Ireland 1/6 Blayden Coverley 1/7 and Zak Reuben 1/24. Leschenault finished 6/142 after their 35 overs.
Blayden Coverley opened the batting with a bang and was first out for 21, including 5 boundaries, in a partnership of 33 with Zak Reuben.
Josh Elliott was next out for 7 and the score 2/51. Max Ireland then joined Reuben and the pair added 69 runs with Ireland being the aggressor, scoring 51 from 52 balls.
Reuben was then next out for a very well made 48, just short of what would have been his first half century. Judd Rinder finished on 6 not out and Adam Worlley 1 not out and Collie made 3/152 from 30 overs to win by 10 runs.
Sunday Collie played Dalyellup at Roche Park in a proper 50 over game, winning the toss and batting. Adam Worlley and Robbie Chitty opened and put on 58 before Chitty was out for 25.
Judd Rinder and Josh Elliott both made 1 and the score was 3/71. Blake Rees joined Worlley for a 45 run partership before Rees was out for 18 and the score 4/116. Worlley making it to 50 within the partnership. Liam Wilson made 4 before he was out and the score 5/136.
Max Ireland then joined Worlley for a 83 run partnership showing great signs for the future. Worlley fell just short of a century with a very well made 96. Ireland was next out for 39, Blayden Coverley made a quick 13, Zak Reuben was 1 not out and Jack Williams 0 not out. Collie finished 8/237.
The Collie bowlers found themselves up against some good batting from Dalyellup. Coverley (1/15 ) took the first wicket and then the second fell to run out from Reuben. A big partnership then formed for Dalyellup and it was Josh Elliott (1/28) who broke through with a stumping by Ireland. With the ball being given to all players to have a go it come down to Dalyellup needing around 5 an over from the last 5 overs.
Judd Rinder (1/28 from 7 overs) and Zak Reuben (0/19 from 8 overs) were put in charge of restricting the runs and with the team in a great situation to learn about the importance of feild placements.
They both held their nerve and It come down to 9 runs needed from the last Reuben over. The over only went for 3 and included two run outs.
Great win for Collie by five runs.
