Dunsborough’s women’s side continued its dizzying debut season with a 27-point win over fourth-placed Aces Sky in round 21.
Cheered on by the fans, the Oilers hit their stride with 14 unanswered points in the opening term.
Ahead 26 to 5 at the first change, Dunsborough continued its assault before securing a 30-point lead at half time.
A rejuvenated Aces Sky went toe-to-toe with Dunsborough in the third term.
Despite losing the fourth quarter (17 to 21), the Oilers held on to claim a 78 to 51 win.
Oilers player, and Western Australia – Under 18 Women’s pick, Dana East was effective throughout the game and top-scored with 26 (including four three-pointers).
Dunsborough stars Beige Harris and Adele East landed 15 and 13 respectively. Emily Jones notched up 15 for Aces Sky.
In the men’s competition, Tornadoes Black took on Tornadoes Red in their final derby clash of the season.
Leading by eight at the first change, Tornadoes Black continued its momentum throughout the remaining three quarters.
The second-placed side stormed home to secure an 73 to 51 win.
Five of Tornadoes Black’s seven players reached double players, while Red’s Braden Wilson shot 12.
Third-placed Aces Sky finished its regular season campaign with an 82 to 47 thrashing of bottom-placed Eaton.
Following a tight first term, Aces Sky landed 24 to five in the second – ensuring a comfortable lead at the main break. An unfazed Aces Sky held a wide margin in the second half.
The finals series will begin this Friday night.
In the 2019 Basketball WA Country Championships, the Bunbury Bears’ Under 16 Boys’ Championship side scored a 40 to 23 win over Eaton in the grand final.
The Bears’ U18 Boys’ Championship side lost to Geraldton, 46 to 34, in the decider.
Brayden Jones received the U18 Boys’ Championship All Star medal, while Zaya Lily Black was named U18 Girls’ Championship All Star.
Bunbury’s U13 Girls’ Championship team secured a 46 to 29 grand final win over Mandurah.
The Bears’ U13 Girls’ Division Two, U12 Girls’ Championship, and U12 Girls’ Division Two teams were runners-up.
