The Capel Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade became the recipient of a new $500,000+, 3.4 Urban fire truck on Friday, April 12.
Replacing the brigade's 2.4U appliance (in operation since 2001), the new truck features enhanced equipment, 3000-litre water capacity, crew cab design, and increased pumping capacity.
The appliance also fits five crew members, compared to three in the old vehicle.
Capel training officer and fire control officer Peter Dunlop said the new truck would assist with the brigade's operations.
"With this new truck, we can carry more water to assist the areas we've got to cover," he said.
"We'll be able to get more water resources and personnel out to each fire in a quicker, easier fashion.
"It feels good to get the support that comes from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services."
DFES provided the truck - funded through the Emergency Services Levy - to the Shire of Capel.
"Hopefully, we can get 15 to 20 years out of this new truck," Shire of Capel chief bush fire control officer Chris Scott said.
