The City of Bunbury Mayor has praised the recently announced state budget describing it as well balanced.
Mayor Gary Brennan said from a regional point of view he was happy to see the dualling of Bussell Highway happening along with several projects specifically for Bunbury.
"When you look at all the capital works and investment that the government has decided on for Bunbury, I'm very pleased," he said.
"We're delighted that the Premier has decided to trial a central government centre - ServiceWA in our city in the CBD.
"We'll have discussions with government about where that should go - so that's a great outcome."
Mr Brennan said he was unsure of how much space the government would be looking at for the centre but there were several central locations to choose from.
"The City owns the old Souths building and that's available for lease so that's a possibility," he said.
"There is still capacity particularly in the northern end of Victoria Street and a couple of places in Marlston Hill so there are a few areas that the government could select.
"It's a nice challenge to have, I don't mind where it goes providing it is in the central area and the Premier made it very clear that he wants it in the CBD."
During a recent visit to Bunbury Premier Mark McGowan said he believed placing ServiceWA within the city's CBD would help to generate an added sense of vibrancy and work as an incentive for people to visit the main streets.
Mr Brennan said the impact of ServiceWA on the CBD would depend on how many people it will employ.
"If it brings new people into the central area it will have a good impact," he said.
"It gives people another option but I think a lot of people pay everything online now.
"What it does if they've got to come into the central area to do licensing then they might go get their eyes checked, have a cup of coffee and walk past a couple of shops and see something they might like - so it all adds to the mix."
Other announcements for Bunbury out of the state budget included $11 million for Bunbury Hospital, $8 million for the port and $3 million for a railline to Kemerton.
Work on these projects is expected to commence in the coming months.
