What started off as work experience has led to part-time employment for one Australind man who just needed someone to give him a chance.
Jed Ross suffered a serious brain injury following a car crash, which changed his life forever.
The accident caused him significant issues neurologically as well as having a pronounced impact on his physical ability, communication skills, family relationships, ability to work, social activities and his general outlook on life.
Incite Solutions Group marketing and employment service manager Daniel Peeney has been supporting Mr Ross through rehabilitation and then to try and find him some work experience.
After contacting the Australind Spud Shed, Mr Peeney said he had been blow away by how positive and enthusiastic the team was to help.
"Having seen firsthand the impact the Spud Shed has had on Jed, it has been nothing short of amazing," he said.
"He has become more confident, taken the initiative within the role and is now in the position where a return to paid work is a real possibility when it might have been just a pipe dream before.
"It was amazing to see, Jed has been working across the store and taken on a lot of additional duties, which is fantastic."
Jed's mum Lil Ross said it had been a great experience for her son.
"He really enjoyed it, he enjoys socialising and being out with people instead of sitting at home and he loves working," she said.
The Spud Shed offered Mr Ross six to 12 hours of unpaid work a week to help him to build skills and confidence before recently asking him to take on a couple of hours of paid casual work.
Mr Ross said he enjoyed working with the Spud Shed team and getting out and socialising.
Spud Shed manager Mohammad Madadi said Mr Ross had done an amazing job.
"We are happy to help, he learnt a lot and we are happy to offer him a job," he said.
Spud Shed administration officer Sharnie Atkinson said it had been great to have Mr Ross as part of the team, helping out with everything from trolley collection to stacking shelves.
