A week for the Bunbury community to come together and celebrate Indigenous culture is being planned by the South West Aboriginal Medical Service.
The South-West community is being encouraged to embrace NAIDOC Week this year through a series of activities planned for the national week, held from July 7 to 14.
SWAMS will be hosting its annual Elders Luncheon on July 10 and Family Fun Day on July 12 to celebrate the week, which acts as an opportunity for people to come together.
SWAMS chief executive Lesley Nelson said NAIDOC Week was a great opportunity to support the local South-West Aboriginal community.
"NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people," she said.
"This special week is celebrated not only by Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.
"Culture and community are at the heart of what we do as an Aboriginal Medical Service, it brings us great pleasure to deliver these local NAIDOC Week events."
The Family Fun Day will be held at the Bunbury Trotting Club from 10am to showcase the region's rich Noongar culture.
Entry is free and a gold coin donation is appreciated.
Entertainment for all ages will be on offer, including kids' activities and rides, a free sausage sizzle, local Noongar performances, cultural tastings and free goodie bags for the first 500 entrants.
The SWAMS Clinic On Wheels will also be offering free health checks throughout the day.
