At only six years of age, Cooper Dyer is already showing a strong social conscience and demonstrating how everyone can make a difference in the future of our world with their own actions.
The Parkfield Primary School Year 1 student was recently recognised for his efforts by being named the latest Bunbury Forum Choose Respect Champion at a special school assembly.
In presenting the award to Cooper, Bunbury Forum Shopping Centre marketing manager Ashley Hastie said Cooper has shown extraordinary respect for the environment by joining his dad in tackling marine pollution.
"Every weekend, Cooper helps his dad pick up plastic and rubbish from our beach and estuary," he said.
"They then sort the debris and record the data which is sent off to a national database.
"They have even created a YouTube video to inspire others to take up the challenge to try and protect our oceans."
Bunbury Choose Respect coordinator Leanne Maher said the Bunbury Forum Choose Respect Champion Project is a fantastic way for them to highlight the many positive actions and attitudes of Bunbury's young people.
"Being a role model of respect helps grow respect, and showing kindness to others invites others to also be kind," she said.
Nominations are open to any school age person and can be made online at bunburyforum.com.au/event/choose-respect-champions or by picking up a nomination form from the Bunbury Forum Centre Office.
