The Collie Coal Miners' Welfare Board of Western Australia channelled more than $50,000 into the Collie community during the last financial year.
The board's annual report showed a substantial commitment to a wide cross section of Collie's community and sporting organisations.
Major contributions for the year included $25,000 to The Smith Family for the 'Learning For Life' programs in schools, $7,000 to the Collie Harness Racing Club to assist with the installation of security fencing, $5,000 towards the Lions Club of Collie's Christmas pageant and $5,000 towards the Collie Visitors Centre's booking system upgrade.
Chief financial officer Ian Miffling said the grants helped a total of 17 causes.
"We believe that donating to causes, such as the school scholarships and assistance for needy school children to attend camps and excursions, helps kids to grow without the stigma of not having a lot of wealth," he said. "We want to give the community that opportunity to realise their potential."
