St Brigid's School's smallest members created the biggest buzz in Collie last week with the best baked goods served in town.
The catholic school's kindy class opened up a Cake Shop for one day only, serving home baked goods to their loved ones in culmination of an inquiry project spanning the school year.
The students baked and taste tested cakes, pastries and delicacies for their loved ones, designed a shop logo, created store front signage, menus, store specials and more for a mere $5 entry at their grand opening Thursday November 7.
Teacher Hayley Digney said the year long project brought together various aspects of learning in a fun and inquisitive environment for the students.
'It's called inquiry based learning so we have a general plan which incorporates the different stages of learning however along the way the details are led by students interests and curiosities.
"The students benefit from this form of learning because they look forward to it and are open to the learning aspects because it's fun and they aren't stuck behind desks all day."
Student Kiara Elks said she was excited to serve her dad on the day, specifically excited to show off her rainbow cake.
"Well we looked at all the shops and our favourite kinds were the food ones," she said.
"The rainbow cake is my favourite and I can't wait to show my dad."
