Wow, how the world has changed in the last few weeks. Our whole way of life has been turned upside down and will continue to change in the next few months.
It has never been more important than now to Choose Respect.
Showing care and consideration to others and yourself is vital if we are to come out the other end of this pandemic with an intact community, a sense of pride in how we coped in these difficult times and an ever stronger Aussie spirit.
In 2019, the ABC conducted an Australia Talks survey.
Over 50,000 Australians responded and a clear finding was that 93 per cent think Australians should show more respect towards each other.
With such incredible difficulties ahead, now is the time to put Respect into action.
But how do you go about choosing respect as the way to interact with others and treating yourself?
Bunbury Respect Inc. has been working within the Bunbury community over the last 11 years providing a simple approach;
- Stopping and thinking before you act.
- Choose care and consideration as the guide for your behaviour.
- Making a conscience decision to show respect in all our interactions.
- Having Choose Respect as a visual reminder in our community.
It starts at home with simple acts of kindness, knowing that those around you are anxious and worried about the future - a smile, a wave, a kind word or action can make such a difference.
Showing respect to those around us sets an example, a model for others to follow.
From here we can take this care and consideration to the supermarket, health care agencies, chemist and with interactions with others as long as we keep our distance.
We need more than ever to show respect; consider our own safety and not put ourselves or others a risk of catching the corona virus.
Choose Respect is for everyone, with seven simple codes of behaviour to work towards.
