To commemorate 22 years of contribution, Richard Dall has been awarded life membership with all-male Bunbury choir, Men of Song.
Following the choirs annual Christmas concert at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, Club President Barry Cousens presented the life membership to Mr Dall for his longevity of service to the group, as well as his support as part of the choirs committee.
"I've been in the choir for 22 years and in that time we've done incredible things that you could only dream about," Mr Dall said.
Mr Dall is a second tenor in the choir, saying he was first bitten by the singing bug whilst singing in the senior choir at Aquinas College in Perth. After graduating, his singing was placed on hold until work commitments allowed the time for Mr Dall to join Men of Song in January of 1999.
"Singing is so therapeutic and good for the soul. For anyone who needs to get rid of their personal issues or problems, it's a moment where you can forget the world and come away with a total high."
With 30 members aged between 18 and 80, Men of Song is led by Musical Director Ian Mills, with music by Accompanist Greg Ross, both of which have been with the choir for ten years.
The choir performs in the genres of contemporary, musical, Australiana and gospel and attracts an audience from all walks of life.
Mr Dall reminisced back to 2016 when the choir completed a tour across Europe, where they also took it upon themselves to sing to grave sites along the western front to help commemorate the 100th year anniversary of World War I.
"It was quite emotional," Mr Dall said between tears, "We sung at Tyne Cot Cemetery and Villers-Bretonneux Australian National Memorial and people came to watch like bees to the honeypot."
"The town's mayor and councilors were so appreciative of what we did and how we did it that they put on a lavish dinner in our honour. It topped the bill for the experiences I've had with Men of Song."
The sudden end to their 2020 season due to Covid-19, Mr Dall said the strong brotherhood of the choir meant that there was no shortage of support.
For 2021, the choir has performances scheduled for May in Busselton as well as Narrogin and Katanning, before the Symphony Male Voice Festival in September.
Men of Song rehearses every Monday night from 7pm at Saint Augustine Uniting Church on Mangles street, with an open invite to new, prospective members.
"We've hit the ground running this year. If anyone in the community has a passion or a real yearning to sing in a terrific environment, they're very welcome to join us," Mr Dall said.
As well as his contributions to Men of Song, Mr Dall owns two cafes in Bunbury.
