Esther Qin will enter the three metre springboard semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympics with confidence and Anabelle Smith is smiling too after claiming the final spot for Friday's preliminaries.
Qin (292.80 points), sixth at Rio's 2016 Games, qualified in ninth place.
Smith's (272.05) last dive was her second best to ensure she stayed in 18th spot - just 13.5 points ahead of Great Britain's Grace Reid - and moved on to Sunday's next round.
It is Smith's third Olympics but her first individual event.
China's Olympic and world champion Shi Tingmao (350.45) was in ominous form, but Qin will move on knowing her best is good enough to threaten for a medal.
The 29-year-old's first dive - an inward two-and-a-half somersault - and third dive (back two-and-a-half somersault) both ranked fifth.
It looks set to be tight at the top, with just 45 points separating third from 14th.
