The 2021 City of Bunbury, local government elections saw the City welcome a new mayor and six councillor spots filled.
With a total of 32 per cent of votes returned for the 2021 election, councillor Jaysen De San Miguel was voted in as Bunbury's new mayor with 19.87 per cent of the vote, just 103 votes more than candidate Amanda Yip.
There were six councillor positions with the City of Bunbury, which saw newcomers Gabi Ghasseb, Ben Andrew and Marina Quain elected.
They will join re-elected candidates Karen Steele, Tresslyn Smith and Michelle Steck.
The 32 per cent vote return is a slight increase from 28.55 per cent of votes returned in 2019.
The new candidates will be sworn into council on Monday, October 18 and the council will then vote on the deputy mayor position.
Shire of Dardanup
The Shire of Dardanup saw eight candidates compete for five vacancies during the election on October 16.
Those elected included current Shire of Dardanup president Mick Bennett and re elected councillors Janice Dow, Tyrrell Gardiner, Luke Davies and newcomer Ellen Lilly.
The shire had 27.39 per cent of the votes returned and Cr Bennett received the most with 16.02 per cent of the votes.
A special council meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 20 where councillors will be sworn in officially and the Shire president and deputy Shire president will be elected.
The Shire of Capel
The Shire of Capel has welcomed re elected councillor Doug Kitchen and new councillors Ashley Dillon, Christina Terrantroy and Peter McCleery to council.
30.50 per cent of votes were returned with Cr Kitchen receiving 19.19 per cent of the councillor vote.
A special meeting of council will be held on Monday, 18 October where councillors will be sworn in officially and the Shire president and deputy Shire president will be elected.
The Shire of Harvey
The Shire of Harvey saw eight candidates contest for six councillor positions.
Joe Capogreco and Dakota Krispyn will begin their four-year term as councillors with the Shire, joining re-elected councillor and current Shire president Paul Gillett and councillors Michelle Campbell, Michelle Boylan and Wendy Dickinson.
The Shire saw 27.10 per cent of votes returned, an increase from 24.96 per cent votes returned in 2019.
The newly elected councillors will be sworn in at a special council meeting on Monday, October 18.
