Dalyellup's Bella Burgemeister has reached the finals stage of the 2018 WA Young Achievers Awards.
The 12-year-old was announced as one of three finalists in this year’s Scott Print Environment and Sustainability Award category.
“It feels good to know that I have made it this far with what I have done,” she said.
“Win or lose, I am still going to keep doing what I do.”
Award winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Saturday, May 26.
Bella has talked to over 3000 students about the United Nations’ Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Five-hundred copies of her book, Bella’s Challenge, have been sold to around 500 schools in the region.
“I enjoy watching the kids read it and I love going to schools and telling the kids all about it,” she said.
Bella spent one year balancing school studies with developing Bella’s Challenge.
Funds raised from the book sales go directly to local sustainability projects.
She said 20-year-old Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai was one of her inspirations.
