Bunbury and the South West will receive a special visit from the “legendary grandfathers of Cuban music” later this year.
Following on from their sell-out international tour, the cast and crew of The Bar At Buena Vista will hit the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre for one show on Saturday, August 4.
The group’s Perth, Bunbury, and Albany shows will close the curtain on their latest Australian tour.
The show promises enough music and dance to transport audiences back in time to old Havana.
Audiences will hear delightful tunes from the late Compay Segundo and Ruben Gonzalez, while witnessing acclaimed Cuban performer Siomara Avilla Valdes Lescay throughout the show.
Paying homage to the Buena Vista neighbourhood – famous for producing Cuban music legends – was the goal for dance legend Eric Turro.
Having performed in The Bar at Buena Vista for over 15 years, Turro said the show has been enriched by 40s and 50s-era Cuban rhythms.
“We want to take you back to the 1940s and 50s, when Buena Vista was all about music, dance, activity, passion, love, confidence, jazz, and rum,” he said.
“I am the elite dancer and choreographer of the show, and we represent what the dancing was like at that time.
“I think the messages embedded in Cuban music and dance are about family, community, love, elegance, and class.
“We show that the dancing and music from that time are still alive today.”
While honing his skills, Turro has relished travelling the world and showcasing Cuban culture.
“The most important things about this show are that I am representing Cuba and also representing Australia, because live in Australia now and have a beautiful family,” he said.
“Australia, especially, I identify with because it opened the door for me and I take every chance I get to perform with my show in Australia.
“Australia is the biggest audience we have.”
