Organisers at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre are counting down to this year’s International Film Festival.
The centre has picked six films, being screened at the venue from July 26 to August 4, showcasing the work of cinema industries from around the globe.
One pick is The Square, known for winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and being nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards.
Directed by Ruben Ostlund, the movie delves into the wild and wacky world of contemporary art.
Another film on the cards is Russian drama Loveless, exploring “a family and society on the edge of collapse”.
Described as “one of the most powerful cinematic experiences of 2018”, the movie chronicles one couple’s desperate search for their missing 12-year-old son.
This year’s crop also includes Thai drama Pop Aye, refugee story The Other Side of Hope, dark comedy The Party, and heart-warming romantic-comedy Aurore.
Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre executive director Fiona de Garis was delighted to be screening unique films for South West audiences.
“I think the model, of showing films at different times over consecutive days, really allows people to come and have a film binge,” she said.
“I also think it’s a really great way for BREC to engage with cultural diversity.”
