South West fans of 1980s/90s super-group Red Hot Chilli Peppers will be having the time of their lives on Saturday, October 27.
Alternative-punk ensemble Sweet Surrender will deliver its Red Hot Chilli Peppers Tribute extravaganza at the Prince of Wales Hotel for one night only.
Sweet Surrender bassist Vincent Douglas – playing Flea in the show – promised 90 minutes of fun, vibrant Red Hot Chilli Peppers renditions.
“We went to Bunbury a few years ago, but this will be our first time playing at the Prince of Wales so we’re really looking forward to it,” he said.
“Playing all the time and being up on stage is quite fun. When the crowd is there and everyone is enjoying themselves you get an extra kick out of it.
“We all have our different tastes in music but, for some reason, we all lean towards the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
“They have been around since before I was born, so it was really good growing up and being able to listen to their music.
“The music has a lot of variety, and we have all related to it, so we thought we’d give it a go. It’s a lot of fun to play so we can’t complain.
“The band has managed to evolve, they continue to play good music that relates to older and newer generations.”
Douglas and his brother/band keyboardist James Douglas teamed up with lead guitarist Chris Samakovidis, drummer Beau (Bella) Haines, and producer/DJ Michael Purea to form Sweet Surrender.
After playing a variety of venues between Kalgoorlie and Esperance, the band took a chance and moved into Perth’s vivacious music scene.
Since hitting the city, the band has supported acts such as Ragdoll, 46 Brigade, End of Fashion and Living Colour.

After much hard work, the group celebrated the release of its debut EP, Issue #1 Ordinary Hero, earlier this year.
In 2019, the group will be refining its original sound whilst preparing a tribute to legendary pop icon Michael Jackson.
The group has even begun working on its second EP.
Aware of the value of persistence, they work around the clock to get the Sweet Surrender name out there.
“We always tell people to not give up – opportunities do come your way and you’ve just got to keep at it,” Douglas said.
“We tell people to keep writing their own stuff. However, if they want to get their names out there, they shouldn’t be afraid to do other people’s music as well.”
