It’s official – Bunbury’s Ryan “the Milkman” Scott is Australia’s new super heavyweight arm wrestling champion.
Scott travelled to Norwood, South Australia to take on the best-of-the-best in the 2018 Australian Armwrestling Championships on December 1.
The trip saw him win the super heavyweight – right arm title and claim second in the super heavyweight – left arm division.
“It feels great and it’s something I have been working towards for a long time,” he said.
“I managed to beat Australia’s number one arm wrestler in the competition, as well.
“I am now regarded as the best arm wrestler in Australia, of any weight and any size.
“On the day, I was in the right frame of mind.”
Scott will soon hit the gym ahead of the 2019 World Armwrestling Federation Championships in Poland next September.
Reflecting upon his career so far, Scott said he was grateful to have the support of his family, friends, and teammates.
“I was once told that I would never beat any of these people and that I would never beat certain other people in Australia,” he said.
“At the time, I had a WA state representative ask me: ‘You’re never going to beat these people, so what are you going to do from here?’.
“After that, I kept training and believing in myself.
“Now I am the best arm wrestler that Australia has ever had.”
Australind’s Brenden Mckenzie was on a roll after picking up three titles at the Western Australian Arm Wrestling Championships in October.
Competing in his first national championships, Mckenzie placed second in the Under 90 kilogram – right arm division.
Manjimup arm wrestler Cindy Gibellini came second in the ladies open weight – left arm category and third in the right arm division.
Arm wrestlers Hamish Boyss and Kaedyn Hibberd also represented the South West during the competition.
Impressed by his teammates, Scott said the region’s arm wrestling scene was steadily gaining in strength.
Whilst training for next year’s world championships, Scott will organise another amateurs competition in Collie as well as another State Title event.
