The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre will host a lively production from Whiskey and Boots Theatre next month.
Following a successful season at Perth’s Awesome International Arts Festival, children’s theatre show Benjamin & Me will hit the centre from January 14 to 16.
Benjamin & Me is an intimate theatre experience combining music, crazy contraptions, and illustrations to tell the stripped-back tale of Will and his dog, Benjamin.
The story is one that encourages young people to embrace their points of difference and, with a little imagination, show how everyday objects can turn into something remarkable.
“I want to give people an intimate storytelling experience, like we’ve gathered the family into the lounge-room for a good yarn,” Benjamin & Me writer and performer Mark Storen said.
The production will extend beyond the theatre, with pre-show foyer activities available to all ticket holders and an optional 90-minute workshop prior to the show.
Hosted by Storen, the workshop will encourage children to work collaboratively whilst exploring themes of friendship and adventure through drama-based activities.
Using excerpts from Benjamin & Me, participants will explore the use of storytelling and music for theatre performance.
Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to take part in an informal performance for family and friends.
Hosted in the summer holidays, Benjamin & Me is suitable for ages 7+ and will provide over two hours of entertainment for those who participate in the pre-show workshop.
In February, the centre will host Valentine’s Day – I Want to Know What Love Is, a production for those aged 16+.
Joelistics & James Mangohig: In Between Two will entertain audiences with its unique combination of music, theatre, and story-telling in March.
Thickets for all shows are available now from bunburyentertainment.com, via phone on 1300 661 272, or in person at the Box Office.
