The State Government is confident that Lester Group's proposed new lifestyle village will provide joy to hundreds of South-West residents.
Last week, construction kicked off on the $47 million EdenLife Australind project.
Stage one will deliver 36 houses and a range of community facilities, including a clubhouse.
Aiming for a light environmental footprint, Lester Group also plans to install a mini energy grid.
Once completed, the development will feature 186 homes and house around 300 community members.
The project was designed to help "fill the gap" between the rising number of senior citizens and the number of affordable housing options in WA.
Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray and Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke met with Edenlife chief executive officer Bill Marshall on Friday, May 17.
Ms Clarke said the project aligned with the State Government's aim to diversify housing options for people over 50.
"People move to this region because of its beauty and its relaxed atmosphere," she said.
"Projects like Edenlife help to bring the community together. They're also imperative for our ageing population."
Australind resident Elizabeth Gargaro was first to secure a site within stage one. She said Edenlife would greatly benefit herself and many others in the region.
The first few homes are scheduled for completion in late 2019, with many of the community facilities due for completion in March 2020.
