It has been nearly a year since the City of Bunbury changed its paid parking scheme and residents will have the chance to have their say on the issue at an upcoming forum
“We changed the car parking regime in Bunbury last year, and, at that time, council resolved that we would review it,” City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said.
“Our officers are currently going through and collecting data on parking trends, while also looking at the costs involved and the income.
“They are gathering for the report. That report should be ready towards the end of May. Once that report is ready I then want to take it to the public.”
Mr Brennan said the public forum would provide an opportunity to go through the report with attendees, clarify details, and respond to suggestions.
He said the detailed report would then be put forward to the council.
Last year, around 100 residents turned out to a public forum to address the results of the CBD Experience Survey.
Members of the public at the forum called for two hours of free parking for all paid parking bays in the CBD.
The Council later amended the CBD parking rules to allow for two-hours free parking between Mondays and Saturdays.
Mr Brennan also revealed a forum would be held later this year to address the Civic and Cultural precinct’s development.
“We have got the concept plans by our architects pretty well finalised now. There is a little bit more work to be done now that we are acquiring the Souths building,” he said.
“What I would like to do is the same thing as with the CBD parking – take a concept to the community in July and ask people for their feedback on the concept.
“At the moment, the concept shows where a multi-deck carpark should be located, what opportunities there are for a new art gallery to join with the current gallery, and what opportunities there are for commercial community development on the land as well.”
Mr Brennan said the City has planned to secure the Souths’ site prior to the forum.
The City first presented the Civic and Cultural Precinct strategy in early 2016.
Bollig Design Group was awarded the $122,100 City of Bunbury contract to provide a business assessment and concept design for the project.
